There’s no better way to finish off the summer grilling season other than grilling up some jibarito burgers! You may have enjoyed the vegan version of this recipe, but today we're using Amylu chicken burgers which make this cooking process a breeze. And of course, I had to season the burgers with Loisa's Organic Adobo and Sazón to make this a true jibarito.
You can shop Loisa's Organic Sazón and Adobo, as well as Amylu burgers, at your local Whole Foods Market! Check out Loisa's Store Locator to see which grocery stores near you carry their products.
Plantain buns are better than regular buns
Switching to plantain buns can really elevate your burger game. They add a slightly sweet flavor and a satisfying crunch, making them a way better alternative to regular buns. Plus, they're gluten-free, packed with nutrients, and the natural sweetness of the plantains pairs perfectly with the caramelized onions and savory gouda in the chicken burgers, creating a balanced and delicious bite.
Amylu Chicken Burgers are perfect for jibaritos
Amylu chicken burgers are fully pre-cooked and packed with so much flavor! They’re charbroiled so you get all that delicious grilling taste at home in just a few minutes. I especially love that their burger patties are antibiotic free and made with only real ingredients. Plus they help knock off quite a bit of cooking time, which comes in handy on a busy day.
We’re using Amylu’s Caramelized Onion and Gouda Chicken Burger to bring this jibarito together, but there are plenty of other flavor options! You can also try the Three-Pepper Chicken Burgers, Cowboy Chicken Burgers, or Greek-style Chicken Burgers.
For some extra flavor, I seasoned these chicken patties with Loisa's Organic Adobo and Sazón. These add add a rich, savory flavor that ties everything together perfectly.
How to flatten the plantain buns to make jibaritos
Making plantain buns is easy once you know the technique. Start with slightly green, firm plantains. Peel them and cut them into equal-sized pieces, then fry them until they're golden and crisp. After that, I like to use Loisa’s tostonera to press each piece flat. Fry them again until they're as crispy as you like.
This double-frying method makes sure your plantain buns are sturdy and crunchy, perfect for your juicy chicken burger and toppings.
Add your favorite toppings
You can never go wrong with the classic jibarito toppings like cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayoketchup. You could also add a few avocado slices or a really yummy slaw to add some crisp texture. Feel free to get creative here and add all of your favorite toppings!
