2% for Veggie Mijas
Empowering Global Majority women and gender-expansive individuals through plant-based living, cultural foodways, and sustainability.
As part of our ongoing commitment to community, Loisa donates 2% of online sales each month to a community organization. This month, we’re proud to support Veggie Mijas, a collective honoring cultural preservation, food justice, and sustainability through various initiatives.
Veggie Mijas is a collective dedicated to empowering Global Majority women and gender-expansive individuals through plant-based living, cultural foodways, and sustainability. The organization emphasizes the power of food to heal, connect, and empower communities, honoring cultural preservation, food justice, and sustainability through its initiatives.
Honoring Roots, Building a Sustainable Future
Veggie Mijas was founded on the principle that plant-based eating is deeply embedded in ancestral traditions. Challenging the misconception that veganism is a Western or elitist trend, the collective celebrates the diverse cultural histories of plant-based eating within Indigenous and Global Majority communities.
Through storytelling, mentorship, and community action, it creates spaces for individuals to reconnect with their food heritage while embracing sustainable and nutritious choices.

Expanding Food Access
Veggie Mijas advocates for nutritious food as a fundamental right rather than a privilege. Through partnerships with community gardens, farmers' markets, food co-ops, and local businesses, it provides fresh, culturally relevant plant-based foods to underserved communities.
In Chicago, a community fridge ensures that local residents facing food insecurity have reliable access to nutritious meals, while recipe-sharing initiatives offer additional support and resources.

Cooking Workshops & Cultural Celebration
Recognizing food as a bridge to culture, Veggie Mijas hosts virtual and in-person cooking workshops that celebrate ancestral foodways and challenge misconceptions about veganism. In Philadelphia, the organization has empowered underrepresented communities through a community garden and free educational workshops, where participants learn to prepare traditional plant-based recipes that are simple, delicious, and culturally meaningful.
These gatherings foster connection, provide essential education, and encourage individuals to embrace plant-based eating without losing their cultural identity. The cookbook "Manteniendo Nuestra Cultura / Preserving Our Culture" further advances this mission, featuring over 20 vibrant vegan recipes from 14 contributors that highlight storytelling, heritage, and sustainability.

Mentorship & Community Support
A supportive network plays a crucial role in fostering long-term change. Through local chapters, private group chats, and social media platforms, Veggie Mijas offers spaces for shared learning and encouragement. Chapters in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Orlando, Richmond, Washington, D.C., and beyond host events including potlucks, workshops, and farm sanctuary visits, creating opportunities for community-building and support.
Advocacy & Education
Veggie Mijas amplifies the voices of Global Majority chefs, activists, and scholars through social media campaigns, educational programs, and collaborations. One of its most celebrated initiatives, the Veggie Mijxs Book Club, brings individuals together to explore literature on food justice, sustainability, and cultural heritage.
These discussions foster a deeper understanding of the intersection between food, identity, and activism, while creating a space for shared learning, community engagement, and reflection on plant-based journeys and their broader impact.

Collaborations for Change
Believing in the power of collective impact, Veggie Mijas collaborates with brands and organizations such as Loisa and other Global Majority-led businesses to host community events, uplift local change-makers, and champion initiatives that align with its mission of equitable access to plant-based living.
The organization aims to empower 100,000 individuals by 2030 to embrace plant-based eating as a meaningful part of their identity. Through continued education, community engagement, and resource-sharing, it strives to build a future where nutritious, culturally relevant food is a right, not a privilege.
