Providing healthy meals to those impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles.

Jan 17, 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to community, Loisa donates 2% of online sales each month to a community organization. This month, in the wake of the devastating fires that have swept through the Los Angeles area, we’re proud to support Project Angel Food, an organization delivering healthy meals to those affected by the fires.

In the wake of the devastating wildfires that have swept through Los Angeles, Project Angel Food has intensified its efforts to support the community, particularly focusing on individuals with critical health conditions. The organization, renowned for delivering medically tailored meals, has expanded its services to meet the heightened needs arising from the disaster.

Expansion of Services

To address the immediate crisis, Project Angel Food has increased its daily meal deliveries from 2,700 to over 3,000, ensuring that those affected by the fires receive essential nutrition. In addition to their standard offerings, they have introduced fresh meal deliveries alongside regular frozen meals, specifically targeting clients residing near active fire zones. Beyond meals, the organization is distributing emergency supplies, including non-perishable food packs, water, toiletries, hygiene products, and gift cards for essential items. They have also temporarily relaxed qualification requirements to onboard individuals at immediate risk due to the fires and are conducting daily wellness calls to those impacted.

Community and Celebrity Support

The response from the community and notable figures has been overwhelming.Grammy-winning artist and activist Annie Lennox visited Project Angel Food's kitchen to support staff and volunteers. During her visit, she personally thanked over 50 volunteers and staff members, stating, "Meeting these volunteers was a shot in the arm for me. Being able to flip the narrative from hopelessness to engagement can shift your perspective completely." Lennox also made a significant contribution to Project Angel Food’s Fire Relief Fund, which has already raised more than $500,000 since its inception.

Major donations have further bolstered the fund, including a $250,000 grant from The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation, $25,000 contributions from both United Talent Agency and The Nederlander Organization and The Pantages Theater, and $50,000 from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. A live fundraising effort on KTLA Morning News raised $97,000 in just four hours, demonstrating the community's robust support. Additionally, Paris Hilton, after losing her own home in the fire, used her platform to inspire thousands to volunteer, leading to a surge in volunteer engagement. In 2024, Project Angel Food had 3,800 total volunteers; as of now, more than 8,000 offers to help have poured in from across Los Angeles to support the organization’s fire relief efforts.

Call for Volunteers and Donations

Despite the overwhelming support, Project Angel Food continues to seek volunteers for delivery routes and kitchen shifts in the coming weeks. They urge individuals not to show up at their kitchen without a scheduled volunteer shift due to capacity constraints and to avoid calling directly, as their limited phone lines are overwhelmed. Instead, those interested in volunteering are encouraged to email volunteers@angelfood.org to schedule their shifts. Financial contributions are also urgently needed to fund these essential services. Donations can be made at angelfood.org/fire.

Leadership's Perspective

Project Angel Food CEO Richard Ayoub reflected on the overwhelming outpouring of support: "It is at times like these that we see humanity at its best. The support from volunteers and donors has been overwhelming in the best way possible. We are continuing to feed people with serious illnesses, hundreds of whom have been directly impacted by the fires. We are adapting our services to not only deliver medically tailored meals but also provide hygiene products, clothing, ready-to-eat meals, etc. Our fire fund is enabling us to meet those needs."

As Los Angeles faces the challenges brought by the wildfires, Project Angel Food's unwavering commitment to service exemplifies the power of community and compassion in times of crisis.
